What makes a book a book? Is it a
smell? A review on Amazon? Is it a download? Bestseller lists aren’t the place to find small production books, but this genre of literature was the
focus of the recent exhibit Welcome: Page
by Page at The Center for Photography at Woodstock.
On display during this springtime
exhibit were books printed in small batches, an effort by the artist to bind and preserve
their work of words or photos. Viewers were encouraged to pick up and flip
through the displays, and topics included poetry, photography, dreams
and travel.
The non-profit Center for Photography
At Woodstock was founded in 1977 and has a workspace, library, darkroom,
regular workships and classes. They also offer fellowships to regional artists who work with photography or related media.
